I am Belinda and I am a junior in high school. I have a daughter named Isabella and she is 21 months old. I took a Cooking Matters course a couple of months ago and now I have been healthier with my food choices
"I add more color to my meals, like chopped peppers and other veggies. Even my daughter eats it! I am trying to influence my family to eat it more often too. In the chicken stir fry that I make I put really colorful peppers inside. I add broccoli and green and red peppers. I used to buy bottled stir fry sauce but now I make it myself at home because this cooking class has taught me how to make that.
I think about how cooking food is healthier than putting food in the microwave. I think it’s healthier for my daughter. I don’t buy junk food for her any more. I don’t give her fruit snacks. I just give her granola that I make at home that I learned how to make. She loves it. She puts it in yogurt. I buy big jars of yogurt to save money like I learned in class. And now I look at unit prices.”
